Using Sakai 2.9 Gradebook, how do I view course grades?

Both students and instructors can view current scores in Gradebook.

Students

Your instructor determines what information you'll see in Gradebook. To view grades, in the menubar, click Gradebook. You may see either or both of the following:

  • Course Grade: A cumulative grade based on completed items

    • If the instructor has not released the course grade yet, you'll see "Not yet available".
    • Incomplete items are not included in the course grade calculation unless your instructor has explicitly assigned zeroes to those items.
    • The actual percentage derived from completed items appears in parentheses.

  • Gradebook Items: A list of items, with categories and weighting if applicable

    • Each item shows the due date (if applicable), your grade, and any comments associated with the grade.
    • Items not included in the course grade calculation are enclosed in parentheses.

Instructors

Setting grade display options

Instructors can choose to release:

  • Individual Gradebook items
  • Cumulative course grades
  • Both of the above

See Making grades available to students.

Viewing grades

To view grades, from the menubar, click Gradebook. As an instructor, you'll see:

  • An average course grade for the class
  • A list of individual Gradebook items

You can sort items and scores in ascending or descending order by clicking the column headings.

To view cumulative scores, use one of the following options.

  • Near the top, click Course Grades. You will see a list of students. For most gradebooks, the points earned, the letter grade, and a percentage are displayed for each student. (The display may vary based on your gradebook setup.)

    • The letter grade and percentage are based on the items that have been completed. To include items that have not been completed in the course grade calculation, you must enter a zero (0) for each item. You can do so by clicking Calculate Course Grades in the Course Grades screen, or manually entering zeroes where applicable.
    • To view the course grade by section or group, use the "View" drop-down list to select the section or group. You can also use the text box to search for individual students.
    • By default, 50 students are visible. To display more or fewer students, in the drop-down list above the table on the right, change Show 50 to your desired option.

  • Near the top, click All Grades. You will see a list of students, and for each you will see a course grade (percentage) and a point value for each item in the gradebook.

    • The course grade is based on completed items. To include items that students have not completed in the course grade calculation, you must enter a zero (0) for each item.
    • To view the roster by section, group, or category, use the "View" drop-down list. You can also use the text box to search for individual students.
    • By default, 50 students are visible. To display more or fewer students, in the drop-down list above the table on the right, change Show 50 to your desired option.
