If you need to contact Student Legal Services, we’re just a mouse-click or a short walk away. Here are some guidelines if you need legal advice:

Seeing is Believing
If you have questions or concerns regarding the legal system or an action pending against you, the professionals at Student Legal Services will be happy to see you. We emphasize, however, that we cannot “see” you unless we see you. We offer IU students confidential consultations and advice, but we can only extend those services to students who make an appointment and sit down with us. We will make rare exceptions for students on break or studying abroad.

Close for Comfort
Our offices are conveniently located on campus at 703 E. 7th St., on the corner of 7th and Fess across from Dunn Meadow.

Call my Lawyer
We answer our phones (855-7867) most weekdays from 8 am until 4:30, excluding IU holidays. We do not, however, dispense legal advice over the phone. If you leave a voicemail, it will be checked during business hours.

Do you have an Appointment?
You may make an appointment to see us either in person between 8 am and 4:30 pm or by using the “schedule an appointment” feature on this web site. Either way, you must provide us with basic information about you and your case. Because you must complete some brief paperwork, we do not schedule appointments over the phone—instead, we’ll direct you to walk in or use this site. If you have additional documents—your lease, a contract, a ticket or summons—we can best help you if you bring those documents in before your appointment.

Walk-in and Talkin’
SLS personnel will take walk-up appointments in two cases when it’s feasible. (1) We will review an apartment lease while you wait; (2) We will also assist you with a Protective Order regarding stalking or domestic violence immediately. If you have an immediate court hearing, we will do our best to assist you as soon as possible, but we cannot promise availability.
