I received a criminal citation after making a freshman mistake. I couldn’t believe it—it was my third week of school, and I had already gotten in trouble with the law. I called my older sister, a senior at that time, and she told me about SLS. It was great—I called SLS and they immediately made me feel better about my situation. SLS gave me great advice on how to deal with the pre-trial diversion program, and they presented me with a much better understanding of how the law actually works. I definitely recommend SLS to any student who runs into legal trouble.
Student Legal Services accepts electronic intakes. It is important, however, to note the following points:
- WE CAN ONLY ADVISE STUDENTS OF INDIANA UNIVERSITY, BLOOMINGTON CAMPUS, WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS.
Intakes submitted by anyone other than an IU-Bloomington student will not form an attorney-client relationship or entitle the non-student to an assurance of confidentiality.
- Email intakes will only be processed during normal office hours which are Monday through Friday between 8:00AM and 4:00PM.
- After we receive your completed intake form, we will review it and call you. Please provide both daytime and evening telephone numbers to allow us to reach you. Please allow us 24 hours to reach you and schedule your appointment.
- In some cases, we will need additional information regarding your situation before we can schedule an appointment for you. To minimize delays, you should be certain to include all details about your problem on the intake.
IMPORTANT NOTE - It is extremely rare for emails to be intercepted in transit, especially within a wired campus network such as IU's. Any communication over the Internet, however, raises some risk. If you are concerned with someone improperly accessing your email, you may wish to come to the SLS office and make an appointment in person. Someone will call you to schedule an appointment after we receive the completed intake form.
Yes, I have read all the above information and am ready to fill out an intake form.
